Rumworth School

Rummies Bistro

Welcome to Rummies Bistro!

Located within the heart of Rumworth School, Rummies Bistro is more than just a café; it's a fully equipped catering kitchen designed to provide our sixth form students with invaluable real-world experiences.

Our primary goal is to offer students a hands-on learning environment where they can cultivate essential skills, gain industry-relevant qualifications and prepare for successful futures in paid employment. While the focus is on catering, we recognise the importance of imparting transferable skills that are applicable across various professions.

At Rummies, students embark on a journey that mirrors professional practices. Here, they don't just attend classes; they immerse themselves in authentic working scenarios. Our unique setup, which diverges from the typical school timetable, reflects the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry.

Our menu of services caters to the entire school community and beyond, including:

  • Whole school Breakfast Butty Friday
  • Break Time Breakfast
  • Cakes and sweet treats
  • Staff lunches
  • Catering for meetings and school events
  • Barista coffee service

Through these activities, students acquire essential competencies in food hygiene, kitchen safety, customer service and event planning. Front of house services skills are essential, developing their confidence in discussing their work and their menus with customers, whilst also mastering table waiting and service etiquette. The students work towards certifications in Food Hygiene Levels 1&2, receive training in Barista Coffee machine operation, the use of tills and contactless payment systems.

Working with Renowned Chefs

Our students have seized opportunities to collaborate with renowned chefs and participate in prestigious events, both locally and nationally. From master classes with industry luminaries to catering for high-profile gatherings. Examples include –

  • Master Class from MasterChef Winner and restaurateur Simon Wood.
  • Master Class from the Head of Bolton Food Festival and restaurateur Mike Harrison.
  • Student Samuel Hamilton – Six week work experience placement at Woods Manchester.
