Rumworth School

About Us

Rumworth School is an 11-19 community special school within Bolton Local Authority.

This positive and successful special school is ambitious, high-achieving, supportive and happy; the school ensures a high level of improvement for all of our students, who are at the heart of everything we do.

The school has undergone significant growth over the last 10 years. We are designated as a 240 place special school that caters for students aged 11-19 year olds. We currently have 335 students on roll in a building that was built to cater for 270 students. Working with our LA to track student numbers and high needs funding bands, data shows a shifting and continuing demographic that correlates with the national picture, with an increase in students with ASC, as well as in those with more complex learning and medical needs.

We have already outgrown our new building and we hope the delayed planned building programme to create up to 14 additional classroom spaces will begin in April 2024. LA consultation is underway to increase our standard place number to 400, potentially for 2025.

Our previous Headteacher Gary Johnson retired in Summer 2023 after ten years at the helm, and we welcomed Jenny Dunne as our new Headteacher in September 2023.
